Kolbermoor, 19 September 2017 – To mark the 20th anniversary of Cubeware, the business intelligence (BI) and performance management (PM) specialist, this year’s Cubeware user and partner conference, the Cubeware Information Day 2017, was held where the company’s success all began – at Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences. With over 300 guests, four subject tracks, twelve specialist presentations and numerous product demonstrations, the Cubeware Information Day underlined its significance for the BI and analytics community in the DACH region. In addition to previews of forthcoming product releases 9.1 and 9.2 of the Cubeware Solutions Platform C8, the main focus of interest was on the new product generation from the German BI vendor. A technical prototype, code-named “BI Hub”, was presented to a wider audience for the first time.
Back to the roots and full steam ahead to the future
Cubeware was founded by three graduates from Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences 20 years ago, and the BI vendor has benefited from a close relationship with the institution ever since, having recruited well-trained talent as employees on numerous occasions.
In her welcoming speech on the company's 20th anniversary, the Mayor of the City of Rosenheim, Gabriele Bauer, emphasised the close ties with the UAS and the importance of Cubeware for Rosenheim as a centre of technology: as a regional champion for the IT sector and dependable employer, as an important part of the Rosenheim commercial and knowledge network and as the first prize winner of the Rosenheim Business Award.
The university also provided a fitting setting for the event. The lavish foyer, the lecture theatres and a sun-filled courtyard offered the more than 300 attendees the best possible conditions for knowledge transfer, discussions and networking in a relaxed atmosphere.
Strategic innovations based on the Cubeware Solutions Platform
Ralf Pichl, Vice President Sales & Services at Cubeware GmbH, opened the packed information programme with a keynote speech defining the current position of the company. The motto of “Retaining the positive gains of 20 years and integrating innovation” represented the main thread running through the corporate and product strategy he presented.
The Cubeware Solutions Platform (CSP) will continue to form the core of all development as a holistic, integrated BI and PM platform with powerful planning components that Cubeware will use to position itself as a reliably technology partner for sustainable and scalable BI installations. Stated innovations concern topics like the further development of BI bots for large-scale, inexpensive use of BI, the further expansion of the CW1 database powered by IBM as the powerful basis for enterprise planning applications as well as future sourcing models. Cubeware's flexible pricing and licensing model that, particularly in the combination of named and concurrent licences, is unique on the BI market will be retained and extended to include attractive options for software leasing.
A further key topic was the certification of C8 Cockpit to HICHERT and IBCS® (International Business Communication Standards), due to be awarded in 2017, and which Dr Jürgen Faisst, Managing Partner at HICHERT+FAISST IBCS® Institute, announced in his guest talk.
Preview of releases and the next generation of products
As always highly anticipated, concrete insights into product development were provided by product managers Florian Paul and Philipp Matzke with a preview of the release roadmap for CSP C8. In addition to a large number of functional innovations in the imminent Release 9.1 and Release 9.2, scheduled for Q2 2018, the focus is on further optimising the stability and performance of the C8 platform as the basis for innovative analytics applications – especially in preparation for the new product generation.
Cubeware offered initial insights into the coming product generation – code-named "BI Hub” – that will be introduced incrementally over the next two years. Cockpit 10, which was presented as a technical prototype at the Cubeware Information Day, marks the start of the process. Besides new functions for report creation and even more powerful ad hoc analysis capabilities, Cockpit 10 will provide a completely new graphics engine and will feature even faster and more intuitive handling – especially for occasional users.
The product managers also reiterated the clear commitment to a combination of evolutionary and revolutionary development in favour of existing customers, who will be given the opportunity to switch over to the new product generation during ongoing operations. In concrete terms this means, for example, that customers will be able to use their existing analytical and reporting environments and to continue working without any upgrade training.
Cubeware focuses on long-term good business relationships
The long-term product strategy is reflected above all in the long-standing, reliable relationships with customers and partners that make Cubeware so special in the dynamic BI market.
This was the reason why management used the occasion of the company's 20th anniversary to honour very early customers such as Amoena Medizin-Orthopädie-Technik GmbH, Gabor Shoes AG, Viessmann IT Service GmbH and KUMAVISON AG as Cubeware’s “longest-serving” partners, which are representative of many long-standing business relationships. In addition, personal recognition was given to Thomas Hugo from KATHREIN-Werke KG for his role in providing innumerable product references, and to Bob Taylor, former product manager at Cubeware, for his services to the Cubeware V6pro generation of products.
From individual feature to turnkey solution
After the plenary session talks, attendees had the chance to delve further into more detailed information in twelve additional presentations, workshops, product demonstrations and topic-related tracks. In addition to innovative technical approaches like the implementation of driver-based planning, the added value of end-to-end information design and tackling questions relating to the “Internet of Things”, these events also presented concrete customer projects such as those from Roller GmbH & Co. KG (implementing a management information system with over 100 users) and Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG (planning in German professional football).
The afternoon was rounded off with a product demonstration and a track on strategic topics such as BI bots and the interplay of business intelligence and the general challenges of digitalisation.
The day ended in the traditional manner at the Rosenheim Autumn Festival, where customers, prospects and partners were able to celebrate 20 years of successful collaboration with Cubeware’s owners and employees.
