Essener Verkehrs-AG (EVAG) moves 300,000 passengers daily, making it one of the largest providers of local transportation in the western Ruhr region. True to the motto "Wir bewegen Essen" (We get Essen moving), around 1,800 employees ensure that passengers have access to friendly, cost-efficient mobility. EVAG manages their operational business processes with SAP R/3. However, the transaction-oriented platform is not adequate for handling the analytical controlling tasks. An OLAP solution that was originally used, a combination of the TM1 database and Microsoft Excel, was no longer able to handle the increasing demands of reporting. As a result, the existing solution was to be replaced with a controlling platform that is also capable e.g. of handling growing data volumes and presenting qualitative information.
